Why I Joined Altruist: New CBO Rich Rao on Innovation, Scale, and Customer Value

We're excited to announce that Rich Rao has joined Altruist as our Chief Business Officer. With a career spanning engineering, software, and go-to-market leadership, Rich brings a wealth of experience from some of the world's most transformative technology companies. In his new role, Rich will oversee Marketing, Sales, Support, and Partnerships.

Innovation and go-to-market excellence

At Dell, Rich spent the first part of his career engineering products before shifting to focus on go-to-market leadership. “My team in both product and go-to-market helps give me perspective on both how to build customer-centric technology and maximize the customer impact of a product.

A builder at heart, Rich notes, "I’ve spent my career working at companies that were unafraid to do and try hard things. I feel lucky to have spent time at generational companies during current inflection point moments where fast-paced innovation was a requirement”

At Google, he played a key role in scaling the Workspace suite from $10 million to $1 billion. Later, at Facebook, he helped expand the digital advertising business from $20 billion to $50 billion in annual revenue. At Altruist, with a $10T RIA market that’s ripe for disruption, he’ll have an equally large opportunity for impact.

Connecting company potential to customer value

Rich thrives at the intersection of innovation and customer success. "My passion is connecting a company’s potential with the creation of customer value,” he notes.

That’s exactly what excites him about joining Altruist at this critical moment. "Fintech is still early in the game,” he says. “There’s so much room to innovate, and the big question is: What can technology enable that wasn’t possible before?  We have the opportunity to create a better, more efficient, and delightful method of operating an advisory business.

Why Altruist?

Rich had the opportunity to remain in executive roles at Fortune 500 companies, but he actively chose to join Altruist. "I could have stayed on a more traditional path, but Altruist is such a rare opportunity,” he says. “I wanted to share my learnings with a high-potential team to help create something iconic."

For independent financial advisors, that means helping them grow and deliver exceptional client experiences without getting buried in the operational complexity of running their business. For end clients, it’s simpler: better financial outcomes.

We’re thrilled to welcome Rich to the team and look forward to his leadership as Altruist redefines what’s possible for the RIA industry.
